Criteria for Choosing a Regulator
Before going to a diving equipment store, you should familiarize yourself with the products of these providers and choose what suits your environment and your diving level. Diaphragm
It is one of the two systems that any air regulator has to be based upon. A regulator is either diaphragm assembly or piston assembly
Environmental Seal
Environmentally sealed regulators prevent the air from freezing in cold water.
Bar
Bar is the unit for measuring cylinder pressure. Each regulator is different in the ability to handle cylinder pressure.
Yoke/DIN
Regulator valves that attach cylinder to the first stage
A diver can use an adapter to convert the regulator from DIN to Yoke.
High Pressure Outlets
High-pressure outlets are the outlets that supply air from the cylinder through the first stage of the regulator to the manometer and pressure gauge
Medium Pressure Outlets
Low or medium pressure outlets are the outlets that supply air from the cylinder through the first stage of the regulator to the second stage (air sources) as well as to the inflator hose.
Balanced
A balanced regulator provides steady breathing for divers to support automatic air supply as depth increases. As for unbalanced regulators, as the depth increases, it becomes more difficult to breathe due to the increased pressure.
Nitrox
Nitrox is oxygen-boosted air. The ability of the regulators varies when it comes to withstanding oxygen. Some regulators cannot be used for nitrox diving, some can withstand up to 40% while some can withstand more.
